Caring for Silver & Polki Jewellery

Gold-plated sterling silver is genuinely heirloom-grade — if you keep three enemies away from it: perfume, perspiration and open air.

Always wear jewellery last, after your perfume and hairspray have dried. Alcohol and sulphur compounds are the fastest route to a dulled plating. After wearing, wipe every piece gently with a dry, soft cotton or microfibre cloth before putting it away.

Store each piece in its own zip pouch or the box it came in, ideally with an anti-tarnish strip. Silver tarnishes on exposure to air; an airtight pouch alone extends the life of the plating by years.

Never use liquid silver dips, toothpaste or ultrasonic cleaners on polki or meenakari — the foil backing behind uncut stones and the enamel work are both water-sensitive. If a piece needs deep cleaning, bring it to us; re-polishing and re-plating services are available for every Garima Zaaveri piece.
